Chicago's starred restaurants right now (2025 selection)

The 2025 selection awarded stars to 20 Chicago restaurants. This table includes Atelier, which has since closed. Names appear alphabetically. Star counts refer to 2025, and the neighborhood labels match our restaurant guides.

Costs mean two menus before tax, drinks and charges, in US dollars. They come from our restaurant comparison guide. Menu choices and date limits appear beside each figure. These are food subtotals, not the amount you will pay at checkout.

Atelier held one star in the 2025 selection and closed in May 2026.

For Next, Oriole, Schwa and Topolobampo, see the individual guide for menu and price details. Alinea's figures are November listings, and Smyth's figures apply before November 5. Check the current menu and the date attached to a price before comparing it with another restaurant.

The table keeps food costs separate from service charges, tax and drinks. Two menus at the same price can lead to different bills. Open the comparison guide for the published charges and pairing options attached to each menu.

Why Kyōten is in our directory

Kyōten is the one restaurant in our 20-restaurant directory without a star. It is Otto Phan's sushi counter in Logan Square. It took the place of Atelier after Atelier closed. Our directory includes the 19 other restaurants from the 2025 starred selection, plus Kyōten.

Kyōten isn't in the starred table above. Two menus there cost $880, or $980 on Friday and Saturday, with service included, before tax and drinks.

How to use this list

Stars do not tell you the price, booking terms or dietary limits. Use the comparison guide to compare menus and practical limits, then the booking guide to check reservation windows and cancellation terms. The budget guide helps you add drinks, tax and charges before you commit.
