Kyōten: menu prices and booking guide

What kind of dinner is it?

Kyōten, said kee-oh-ten, is Otto Phan's omakase counter in Logan Square. There's one menu, the chef's tasting, and Phan serves each course himself. It moves between otsumami, which are small bites, and sushi. Most of the fish comes from Japan and changes from day to day. The rice is a Japanese variety called Inochi no Ichi, seasoned with two blends of aged red vinegar, and Kyōten says it was the first restaurant in the US to use it. Kyōten's own description.

Kyōten's old Tock page says the meal lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours. That page no longer takes bookings, so use the figure as a rough guide and ask when you book.

One note on how Kyōten fits this directory. Every other restaurant here received at least one star in MICHELIN's 2025 Chicago selection. Kyōten has no star and isn't in the MICHELIN Guide. We added it after Atelier closed because a $980 dinner for two raises the same planning questions as the starred restaurants.

How much is dinner for two?

Kyōten's OpenTable listing puts the omakase at $490 per person on Fridays and Saturdays and $440 on other nights. Unlike most restaurants in this guide, that price already includes service. It doesn't include tax or drinks.

Booking takes a prepaid deposit of $100 per person, so $200 for two. OpenTable says the deposit secures the reservation. It doesn't say whether the deposit comes off the final bill, so check at checkout.

If your dates are flexible, a weeknight saves $100 for two. That puts Kyōten close to Ever, where two menus came to $828 with its 20% service charge when we checked OpenTable on September 8. Drinks cost extra. OpenTable's editors mention sake, beer and wine, but Kyōten doesn't publish a list or prices, so they're not in our totals.

Reservations and changes

Kyōten books through OpenTable, and its official site links there. The old Tock page says Kyōten isn't taking reservations on Tock, so ignore older links to it. OpenTable opens the next month's tables at midnight Chicago time on the 1st of each month, and the next release is October 1, 2026. OpenTable showed no open tables when we checked on September 29, so plan to be online at midnight.

We couldn't read the cancellation terms. OpenTable only shows them at checkout, and there were no tables to check out. Read them before you pay the deposit, and ask whether any of it comes back if you cancel.

The listed nights don't agree. OpenTable gives Tuesday to Saturday, 6:30 to 11 p.m. Kyōten's own contact section says reservations are available Tuesday to Sunday. Go by the dates the booking calendar actually offers.

Dietary needs

Kyōten doesn't publish a dietary policy. Its site, OpenTable listing and old Tock FAQ say nothing about allergies, restrictions or substitutions. A menu built on raw fish from Japan leaves little room for anyone who avoids fish or shellfish, and we wouldn't book for that guest without a clear yes from the restaurant.

Arrival and the rest of your night

Kyōten is at 2507 W. Armitage Avenue in Logan Square. OpenTable lists street parking and business casual dress. Kyōten doesn't say anything about step-free access, so ask if you need it.

Kyoten Next Door, at 2513 W. Armitage, is the cheaper way in. MICHELIN lists it with no star and describes a 10-seat counter that serves only nigiri. Kyōten says the omakase costs $159 a person, or $203.92 with tax and an 18% service charge, which is $407.84 for two. MICHELIN's listing shows it open every night except Monday, and it books through SevenRooms. The gift cards on Kyōten's site are for Next Door only. Kyoten Next Door on MICHELIN.
