Solo dining in Chicago: tasting menus that take one guest

Kyōten's sushi counter and Cariño's chef's counter are clear solo choices because their listings take one guest. You can also book Alinea's Salon, Esmé, Ever or Kasama for one, or request a seat at EL Ideas.

Tasting menus you can book for one

These listings start at one guest. Match the experience and month before paying.

  • Alinea Salon takes 1 to 6 guests in the November listing checked September 30, 2026. The menu is $395 per person. October Salon prices were $375 to $395. Gallery takes 2 to 4 and Kitchen Table 3 to 6, both $495.
  • Cariño takes 1 to 7 at its $225 chef's counter. Its late-night taco omakase takes 1 to 8 at $125 with alcohol. The September 30 listing puts the $200 dining room at 2 to 8.
  • EL Ideas accepts requests for 1 to 8 in its September 30 listing. Dinner is $195 before tax and service. Payment of the emailed invoice secures the seat.
  • Esmé takes 1 to 6 in its September 30 listing. The tasting is $265 Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, or $295 Friday and Saturday.
  • Ever takes 1 to 12 in its September 30 listing. The menu is $345 before its 20% service charge.
  • Kasama takes 1 to 6 for the $325 dinner in its September 30 public listing. Dinner takes no walk-ins.
  • Kyōten takes 1 to 6 online in its September 29 listing. Omakase is $440 on other nights or $490 Friday and Saturday, including service.

Schwa's September 30 prepaid listings start at 2 and take up to 8. Ask about one guest before making plans. Topolobampo's $165 weekday Veracruz offer listed 1 to 8 but ended October 24, 2026. Ask for your date's menu, price and party rule.

Counter seats

Kyōten serves Otto Phan's sushi and small bites across his counter. Cariño's counter lets guests watch plating and talk with chefs. Its taco menu allows no dietary accommodations.

Mako has an omakase counter, but ask how many guests you can book. The whole room receives courses at the same pace. Arrive late and you join the course already underway.

Elske serves both its $145 set menu and à la carte at bookable bar counter seats. Galit's reserved kitchen counter gets the same $115 four-course menu as its dining room. Ask both restaurants about a reservation for one.

Bars and walk-ins

Bar Esmé accepts walk-ins for a separate menu. It does not include Esmé's tasting. Indienne's bar is walk-in only, first come, first served, with bites at $15 to $18. Its tasting room requires a reservation.

Galit's communal table takes walk-ins in arrival order. Its bar serves drinks only to waiting guests. BOKA recommends reservations for the bar and dining room and takes walk-ins when space allows.

Moody Tongue's Bar serves à la carte separately from the Dining Room tasting. Check its reservation terms. Kasama's daytime bakery and counter service takes no reservations. It is a separate visit from dinner.

What one person pays

Use the same per-person menu prices in the price guide. Add tax, drinks and applicable charges. Kyōten includes service; Alinea and Ever add 20%, and Esmé adds 22%.

Alinea and Ever sell non-refundable bookings. Esmé's tickets are non-refundable, and moving a date costs $150 per person plus tax and service. Kasama charges $325 per guest for cancellation within 48 hours. For a solo booking, that puts the whole dinner at risk. Read change and transfer terms before paying.
